Dr. Shari Johnson is originally from Beltsville, MD and earned her undergraduate degree from Xavier University of Louisiana. She then travelled to Nashville, TN where she attended Meharry Medical College. Her medical interests include Preventative Medicine and Women’s Health. In the future, Shari hopes to run her own clinic partnering with one of her best friends who is obtaining her doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She fell in love with St. Vincent's Family Medicine program because of the opportunity to obtain a true experience in the wonderful field of Family Medicine. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her fiancé’ Donovan and closest friends, watching movies, outdoor excursions, cooking, traveling and trying new restaurants.
Paul Caseley, M.D.
Albany Medical College
Dr. Paul Caseley was born in South Africa then raised in Boston and suburban New Jersey. He attended Oberlin College where he majored in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. After graduation, he moved to the beaches of southern California where he ‘lived the dream’ before deciding to get his professional life started. After getting his pre-med course work done at California State University Fullerton, he attended Albany Medical College in upstate New York where he dreamed of returning to the warm weather. He chose Family Medicine for the scope of training and diversity of practice and particularly loved St Vincent’s for the supportive atmosphere and quality of training. When not working, he spends as much time as possible near the water - he was a Labrador retriever in a past life.
David El Hassan, M.D.

Dr. David El Hassan was born at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the University of North Florida where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Public Health. He is a graduate of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. After studying medicine abroad, he knew we wanted to bring his clinical knowledge and skills back to his hometown, where he could treat the people in the very community he was raised. Dr. El Hassan had the amazing opportunity to complete a rotation at St. Vincent’s as a fourth year medical student and absolutely fell in love with the program. From the friendly and welcoming clinical staff to the amazing facilities, he was strongly drawn to the Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Vincent’s. He quickly realized that this was the program for him. What he enjoys most about the program is being able to work with a clinical staff that nurtures its residents and medical students, while encouraging independent thought and decision-making. After residency, he plans to practice in Jacksonville. His professional interests include sports medicine and preventative medicine. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, bass fishing, woodworking, and everything college football.
Kayla Fazio, D.O.

Kayla Fazio grew up in southern West Virginia, and she remained within the comfort of her home state for both undergrad and medical school. She attended Bluefield State College where she obtained her degree in biology and then went on to West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. During her fourth year at WVSOM, Kayla completed a rotation at St. Vincent’s and instantly fell in love with both the hospital and sunny Jacksonville. After graduating medical school, she promptly made the long trek south. Kayla is very excited about the opportunity to put all that she has learned into practice. When not working, she enjoys sitting by the pool soaking up the Florida sunshine, watching movies, and spending time her long-time boyfriend and their two cats.
James "Greg" Hamilton, M.D.

Dr. Greg Hamilton grew up in beautiful northeast Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia prior to attending the Medical College of Georgia. He chose family medicine because of the opportunity to care for people of all ages in any location. During his interview, Greg felt that St. Vincent’s truly cared about their patients and treated them with love and compassion. He knew this was a place where he could grow as a compassionate and skilled doctor. Greg and his wife, Toni, have two wonderful little boys. He loves to spend as much time with them as possible.
Steven Hill, M.D.

Dr. Hill was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. He went to Erskine College, a small liberal arts school, where he had a scholarship to play cello and fell in love with human anatomy and medicine. After college he worked as a research assistant at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he eventually went to medical school. He was active in the Family Medicine interest group and International Medicine group. He coordinated trips and gone on trips to help rebuilding efforts after the earthquake. He joined the Navy prior to medical school and completed his internship in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville. He was offered the unique opportunity to finish Family Medicine residency at St Vincent’s. He is excited to be a part of the team at St. Vincent’s and learn from some of the best doctors in the area. He will work hard to carry on the legacy of competent, caring, and compassionate service for which St. Vincent’s physicians are so well known.
Robert Kawa, D.O.
Osteopathic Fellowship, Florida Hospital, Jacksonville, FL
Dr. Robert Kawa grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC. He pursued his education at Clemson University, where he gained a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology. Shortly after, Rob attended Nova Southeastern University for Medical School. While at Nova, Rob also completed a Predoctoral Fellowship in Osteopathic Practices and Principles. His medical interests include osteopathic manipulative medicine, sports medicine and acupuncture. He is excited to join the class of 2017 at St. Vincent's largely because of the diverse opportunities of care from birth and throughout life, while in a program that treats you like family, as well. He enjoys Family Medicine because it allows for the opportunity to look at the big picture of health and well being. In his spare time, Rob enjoys time with his family, surfing, fishing, diving and any good adventure.
Nimra Khan, M.D.

Dr. Nimra Khan was born in Pakistan and moved to Quebec, Canada at the age of 2. She spent her childhood in Montreal until she was 11 years old, at which time her family moved to North Carolina. She completed her undergraduate career at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and majored in Biological Sciences with a minor in Genetics. Prior to starting medical school, she worked as a medical assistant and had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. This was a life changing experience for Dr. Khan, and she continued to pursue her love for international medicine during Medical School. She completed medical school at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, which is where she discovered her passion for family medicine. She chose family medicine because of her combined interest in pediatrics, adult medicine and obstetrics. After medical school, she decided to move further south into the sunshine state for residency. St. Vincent’s was her top choice due to the exceptional training they provide their residents in forming them into very well-rounded physicians. The welcoming family atmosphere of the faculty and residents sealed the deal for Dr. Khan. She has a strong interest in women’s health and global medicine and would like to continue incorporating these aspects into her post-residency career. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, painting and days out on the pool or the beach.
Jason Largen, M.D.

Dr. Jason Largen is a native of Jacksonville and was actually born in St Vincent's. He attended the University of North Florida and earned a Bachelors in Psychology. Prior to medicine, he had a career in IT and business process improvement. Throughout his career, he always felt drawn back to health care, having been a heart surgery patient as a child. When the opportunity arose to return to school, he jumped at the chance and went to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He is passionate about preventive medicine, with an interest in cancer prevention, weight loss and smoking cessation. He feels St. Vincent's is an excellent program that is very well rounded, with a fantastic residents and faculty. He is very excited to return home, along with his wife who is pediatric resident in Jacksonville. They plan practicing together in Jacksonville upon completion of his residency. In his free time he enjoys playing golf, being anywhere close to the water, playing with his pets or spending time with his very large extended family here in Jacksonville.
Michael Peterson, D.O.
St. Vincent's Primary Care
Dr. Peterson is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During that time Dr. Peterson worked at a microbiology lab where he tested drinking water samples for harmful pathogens and also participated in research to develop novel techniques to detect Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Before medical school, Dr. Peterson also worked in the finance department of a large hospital, gaining an understanding of some of the inner workings of the complex health system in the United States. Dr. Peterson attended Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. While at Nova, he enrolled in the concurrent Master of Public Health program, allowing him to gain a more comprehensive understanding of public health issues. Dr. Peterson was drawn to St Vincent's because of the comprehensive training, unopposed setting and overall positive experience during his student rotation. In his spare time Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his family and being in the outdoors.
