St. Vincent's to break ground on Clay County facility

By Bryan Davis, Birmingham Business Journal

St. Vincent's parent company Ascension Health has plans to break ground on a $33 million hospital expansion project in Clay County this week.

The expansion will add maternity and women's services to the existing St. Vincent's Clay County hospital, along with 30 inpatient beds, 13 treatment rooms in the emergency department, and a shell that will be suited for the future expansion of 30 beds. In all, the project will double the size of the current hospital.

“We’re excited to be adding much needed maternity services for women seeking care close to their homes,” said St. Vincent’s Clay County President Blain Claypool. “In addition to expanding care, we are creating opportunity in this great community by serving as an economic engine. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The facility will create 100 new jobs for the hospital. Hiring will begin next spring.

Birmingham's Brasfield and Gorrie has been named as the contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
