“Today is the second anniversary of my second round of chemotherapy, so I'm a two-year survivor of breast cancer,” said Mergen.

That’s why she was so happy when she learned the company she works for, FIS Global, partnered with St. Vincent’s to bring in their mobile mammogram bus.

“Mammograms are something that people will give every excuse not to go have, so this unique mammogram mobile, it's great to have it come here,” said Mergen.

“It's so convenient. People just go on their break have a mammogram and go back,” said Elizabeth Frketic, a breast health advocate for St. Vincent’s.

Frketic said for many women, the bus is less frightening than a hospital or doctor’s office.

“The patients that come on the bus are so much more relaxed,” said Frketic.

According to St. Vincent’s, more than 2,000 mammograms have been performed on the bus in the last year.

Mergen said for her, early detection was the key. She said she hopes other women take advantage of the mobile unit.
