St. Vincent’s Southside and Riverside cited for excellence in hospital safety

The Leapfrog Group has awarded St. Vincent’s Southside and St. Vincent’s Riverside a hospital safety score of “A,” the highest grade in patient safety.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog, designed the hospital safety rating system to evaluate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

“Leapfrog began reporting these ratings several years ago. St. Vincent’s HealthCare worked with Leapfrog to understand their areas of focus, and we are thankful that our tireless focus on patient safety has earned this top-score and recognition, and more importantly, has saved lives,” said St. Vincent’s HealthCare CEO Moody Chisholm. “I am extremely proud of our associates and talented team of health professionals for doing this for our patients every day.”

More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2014, with about 32 percent receiving an A grade.
