Health Notes: Latest safety grades from the Leapfrog Group give five area hospitals A grades

By Charlie Patton

St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside, St. Vincent’s Medical Center Southside, Orange Park Medical Center, the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and Baptist Medical Center Beaches each received A grades for safety in the latest report by The Leapfrog Group, which has been grading hospitals on safety since 2000. UF Health Jacksonville received a B. Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Memorial Hospital received C’s.

A total of 2,520 hospitals received grades of A, B, C, D or F in the ratings. But only about 1,400 hospitals participate in the surveys Leapfrog conducts. Hospitals that choose not to participate have complained that that adversely affects their scores.
