Celebrate Clay: $65,000 in rewards for nonprofits that serve Clay County

The Way Free Medical Clinic in Green Cove Springs recently received the top, $10,000 prize at the Celebrate Clay community service awards.

The clinic, which serves the indigent population of Clay County, received the Paul E. Reinhold Community Service Award, according to a news release.

The Clay-based Paul E. & Klare N. Reinhold Foundation Inc. sponsor the annual awards, which this year distributed $65,000 and 50 community service awards to nonprofits that provide services in the county.

A panel of five judges including three independent volunteers from the community and two Reinhold family representatives voted on the best projects of 2013 to determine the winners.

The Foundation, which created the awards to honor the legacy of founders Paul and Klare Reinhold, has awarded more than $390,000 in the past six years, according to the release.

Here are the other winners:

Judges’ Choice Program Awards, $5,000 each: Personal Energy Transporation, or PET FL, Penney Farms Project REACH Kids Program, Clay County School District

Extraordinary Executive Director, $5,000 to the nonprofit: Darren Daily, Jacksonville Children’s Chorus

Peggy Bryan Volunteer of the Year Award, $5,000 to the nonprofit: Wayne Scott, Clay County Habitat for Humanity

Judges’ Choice Volunteer Awards, $2,500 each: Jean Cosby, Magnolia Point Women’s Club Charities Katarina Zeigler, Clay County Special Olympics Best New Organization, $2,500: St. Luke Child Care Center

Special Judges’ Awards, $1,000 each: Agape House, First Baptist Church of Middleburg BASCA Clay County Golf Classic Clothes Closet, Church Women’s Christian Ministries Florida Striders Hope Therapy James Boys, Orange Park United Methodist Church Kids First of Florida Orange Park Community Theatre Quigley House  Seamark Ranch home for troubled youth St. Vincent’s Healthcare Foundation Waste Not Want Not
