Florida Doctor's New Kid On The Block: A Profile of Navneet Grewal

Grewal Profile

Welcome to Florida Doctor’s New Kid on the Block series, where we’ll introduce you to a doctor new to the medical field each month. We’ll be asking them questions about their work, their background … and of course a little bit about their personal lives, as well.

Being a new doctor fresh out of residency isn’t always easy, but when you are new to the medical field, there isn’t much time to get settled. We’re always in awe of the docs who manage to throw themselves seamlessly into the world of medicine—especially those who do it with such flair.

Dr. Navneet Grewal over at St. Vincent’s is one of those doctors. In an effort to get to know her just a little bit better, we decided to ask her some questions.

Here’s what this new kid on the block had to say for herself.

So what is your medical education background, exactly?

My hometown is Punjab, India, and I attended Government Medical College Amritsar in Punjab, and did my residency in family medicine at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

What’s your family like?

My husband, Manpreet, and I have a 3-year-old daughter named Sehaj.

What do you love about what you do?

Being a family medical practitioner, I see patients of all ages, from newborns to aging grandparents. I get to build relationships with patients and their families. Easing the pain, bringing smiles to their faces, helping my patients get in control of their chronic diseases rather than the other way around, brings satisfaction to me. The best part is when, at the end of the visit, they share something with me like their baby’s first words, or about a graduation or wedding, or anything important to them, because it makes me feel like an important part of their lives. A good relationship with my patients helps me take better care of them.

What are some hobbies you enjoy in your free time?

I love spending time with my family, traveling and reading novels.

We also asked a colleague of Dr. Grewal’s, Dr. Allison Mabus, what exactly it is about the new doc that makes her a standout new kid on the block.

“Dr. Grewal is a pleasure to work with, and her patients love her. She goes the extra mile to make sure her patients get the care they deserve. She is incredibly thorough, and gives ample time to each individual patient.”

— Allison Mabus, M.D.
