As if dealing with breast cancer or pregnancy alone doesn’t bring on its own set of worries, dealing with both at the same time can be overwhelming. “The biggest challenge when we determine that a pregnant woman has breast cancer is that the staging of the patient can be limited, because we don’t want to expose the mother to radiation, so we have to limit the amount of scans we can do,” said Leann L. Fox, M.D., a medical oncologist and hematologist with Cancer Specialists of North  Florida. “The number of weeks she is pregnant also has a huge determination on how we go about approaching her whole treatment plan.”
