The Division of Rehabilitative Services consists of a team of licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. Together, they are an integral part of the overall healthcare delivery process for St. Vincent's HealthCare.
The rehabilitative process is a dynamic one, maximizing a person's potential through restoration of function and altering deficits to achieve the highest quality of life possible. This quality is expressed as becoming maximally independent at the highest level of function reasonable. The process of rehabilitation involves a spectrum of care that includes prevention of future or further injury, stabilization and restoration of function, and compensation and adaptation from disability. It is the role of the therapist to evaluate and treat physical dysfunction and impairment.
The Rehabilitative Services staff works closely with the physician, patient, family, and other healthcare professionals. The rehabilitative process requires thorough and on-going assessment, treatment planning, goal development, and implementation of the plan of care.
Rehabilitative Services associates respond to physician referrals from all medical services. The Division's services are provided throughout the system to patients in different levels of care, such as inpatient, outpatient, and community outreach.
