Joint Camp is the post-operative rehabilitative model we follow at St. Vincent's HealthCare (SVHC). Joint Camp is a process where the patient and family are actively engaged in the rehabilitative process to maximize functional independence, outcomes, and patient and physician satisfaction.
Some of the key components of Joint Camp include a group exercise environment to allow for patient collaboration with others who have gone through similar procedures. The model is built on the premise that the patient is not sick and chooses to come to SVHC for an elective procedure. This fitness environment focuses on wellness and regaining independence. The patients are expected to dress in street clothes (one pair of Joint Camp gear consisting of a T-shirt and shorts are provided for each patient) when participating in Joint Camp, and families are encouraged and expected to participate.
Patients who require more individualized therapy and training are seen privately in their room. The patient and family will learn appropriate exercises and engage in training necessary to allow for a safe transition to the next level of care.
