30-Minute ER Goal
St. Vincent's Southside is committed to offering patients access to high quality, timely care in our Emergency Room. Our team has dedicated resources to ensure sick patients are seen as quickly as possible.
Our goal is for each of our patients to be seen by a physician or physician’s assistant within 30-minutes of their arrival. The St. Vincent's Southside ER team understands nobody wants to sit in a waiting room when they are not feeling well. That’s why we have given a lot of thought into how we can make our ER more efficient and the overall patient experience more pleasant. To meet our goal of 30 minutes, we have hired additional staff, many who are on-call, waiting to respond quickly should our wait times begin to increase.

Emergency Care
St. Vincent's HealthCare provides emergency care services for nearly 100,000 people each year in its Emergency Departments at St. Vincent's Riverside and Southside.
Our dedicated emergency room physicians are board certified in emergency medicine, with a supporting team of nurses, technicians, and other staff who have special training in emergency care.
Heart Care - Fast
More than 5 million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain. When a heart attack occurs, time is muscle. With every minute that passes, the chances of a full recovery decrease.
The Door to Balloon (D2B) program, introduced by the American College of Cardiology, encourages hospitals to adopt six evidence-based strategies designed to reduce the time interval between arrival at the hospital and the opening of a blocked artery with an angioplasty balloon.
St. Vincent's HealthCare is proud to be participating in the door-to-balloon program. In fact, our average door-to-balloon time is faster than the national average of 90 minutes. Simply put, we're saving more lives than most hospitals across the nation.
Accredited Chest Pain Specialists
St. Vincent's Medical Center Riverside is accredited as a Cycle II Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). This means our patient care procedures exceed the rigid standards set by the national Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers.
St. Vincent's approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack when treatments are most effective and to monitor patients better when it is not clear whether they are have a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor admitted needlessly.
