What to Expect at St. Vincent's GI Lab

Once your procedure has been scheduled by your doctor’s office, our patient registration office will call to pre-register you. You will be asked for your insurance information at this time. A pre-admission testing nurse will call you a few days later and ask for your medical history.

The Day of Your Appointment

On the day of your scheduled appointment, you’ll register at the patient check-in area on the first floor of St. Vincent’s Riverside. From there, you’ll go to the Outpatient Surgery Center, also on the first floor, next to the gift shop.

You’ll be taken to the pre-op area of the GI lab on the second floor and be prepared for your procedure. Then you’ll be taken to one of our procedure rooms, where you’ll be given sedation and your procedure will be performed.

After Your Procedure

After your procedure, you’ll be monitored in our recovery area. As you recover, your gastroenterologist will discuss your procedure and follow up with family members waiting for you.

You’ll be given personalized discharge instructions based on what is found during your procedure. Because you will still be groggy from the sedation you received during your procedure, a nurse will review your instructions with the friend or family member who brought you to the hospital.

Ready to Go Home

When you’re ready to go home, the recovery nurse will alert your friend or family to bring their car to the front entrance of the medical center. You’ll be taken downstairs in a wheelchair to meet them.

Your Results

We will send the results of your tests to your referring physician, who will review them with you.
