Diabetes Care and Education
As obesity and the incidence of type 2 diabetes skyrockets, the need for diabetes education, management, and treatment has become a priority for our community. Thousands on the First Coast have been diagnosed with diabetes, a disease that results in the body not properly using or not adequately producing insulin. It is a lifelong disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood.
If you have uncontrolled diabetes, you stand the risk of high blood levels of glucose affecting nearly every organ in your body, including your eyes, kidneys, heart, and nerves in the feet. This could lead to long-term problems, including heart disease.
St. Vincent's HealthCare offers both outpatient and inpatient diabetes education programs.
Outpatient Education
The Outpatient Diabetes and Nutrition Education Program at St. Vincent's HealthCare has been awarded recognition from the American Diabetes Association, cited for meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education as established by the organization.
