Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate Program

Winn Dixie FoundationSt. Vincent’s HealthCare, in partnership with Winn-Dixie created the Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate Program in 2002 to address the emotional aspects of the breast cancer patient and to establish an enhanced continuum of care for the patient and her family. The Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate has touched the lives of thousands of women in our community since that time.  In May of 2008, Winn-Dixie joined with St. Vincent’s to re-commit its support of the women of the Jacksonville area through this program.

St. Vincent’s offers those patients of The Josephine H. Bryan Breast Health Center at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside, the expertise of the Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate.  Since the origination of this program, it has been highly successful in guiding women through the myriad of options available in the health care system.

The Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate provides compassionate assistance to guide the patient through what could be a very difficult journey.  The Winn-Dixie Breast Health Advocate is available to all women in our community, regardless of ethnicity or socio-economic status, any woman who is diagnosed with or suspected of having breast cancer and seeking care at the Josephine H. Bryan Breast Health Center has access to this program.  Additionally, the Breast Health Advocate offers each woman individual guidance in dealing with issues relating to finance, transportation, physician referrals, support, education, and more.  More important, the Breast Health Advocate touches these women in a very special way; she provides support and comfort during biopsies, holds their hands, listens to fears about cancer, and is available through all aspects of the breast cancer journey.
