Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
St. Vincent’s Medical Center is home to Northeast Florida’s first Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ and now the region’s only Gamma Knife. This highly sophisticated medical device uses radiation to treat malignant and benign brain tumors and other vascular disorders in a single, one day patient visit, non-invasively. The Perfexion is also an excellent treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, an excruciating and incapacitating form of facial pain.
The Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ system offers patients a variety of benefits. The treatment is bloodless, virtually painless, requires no loss of hair or head shaving and patients return to pre-treatment activities right away. Gamma Knife treatment also has excellent, well-documented clinical outcomes for a variety of brain diseases and disorders and has been in use for over 40 years. The Perfexion is the newest gamma knife model and combines pinpoint radiosurgical accuracy tied to sophisticated treatment planning computers.
