Helping You Understand Your Bill
St. Vincent's Medical Center Riverside and St. Vincent's Medical Center Southside are private, not-for-profit healthcare facilities that depend on the payments received from patients to cover the costs of providing care. While Medicare and insurance may cover a portion of the bill, the patient is ultimately responsible for payment.
Patient Financial Counselors may contact you during your hospital stay to discuss what portion of the bill you are responsible for paying. Patients who need special financial arrangements or who may be eligible for Charity Care should let their counselor know or contact the Financial Counseling Office as soon as possible at 904-308-1956.
The bill you receive at discharge contains only those charges posted to your account up to that time. You will receive a final bill listing all charges by mail after you have gone home, unless your hospitalization is being paid by Medicaid or Worker's Compensation.
Your final bill tells you the actual cost of your hospitalization, including final room charges, nursing care, medication, meals, and other fees directly related to your care. In addition to your hospital bill, you may receive other statements from members of your healthcare team who have participated in your treatment. These may include your own physician or other physicians, such as a surgeon, anesthesiologist, cardiologist, radiologist or pathologist. Questions about these bills should be directed to that individual's office.
