The rotation schedule for the 12-month PGY1 Residency Program includes:  

 Orientation (5 week duration)  
 Five Core Rotations (4 week duration each)
 Six Elective Rotations (4 week duration each)  
 Research Block
 ASHP Mid-Year Clinical Meeting
 Year End Wrap-Up Block

  • Cardiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine

  • Quality Management
  • Surgery
  • Sterile Products
  • Transitions of Care
  • Repeat any rotation once
  • Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Toxicology are potential electives at other local healthcare facilities based on availability.

Longitudinal Rotations

  • Pharmacy Practice
    • One evening a week (2:30 pm - 9 pm) covering one floor with responsibilities including order verification, drug dosing, drug monitoring and kinetics.
    • Every third weekend consisting of a combination of day and evening shifts with responsibilities for central distribution activities the first half of the program and clinical services the second half of the year. 
    • One major and two minor holidays
  • Pharmacy Management
    • Two months focusing on each of the following management areas: pharmacy administration, clinical services/drug information, pharmacy education and quality management.
  • Research

 Additional Learning Opportunities 

  • Cardiac and Stroke Code Responder
  • Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Hotline
  • Pharmacy Grand Rounds - Approved for pharmacist and physician continuing education
  • Resident Interactive Teaching Experience (RITEs) - Weekly meeting for resident to provide a forum for group problem solving and presentation interaction not routinely available to residents via other established activities. Both residents and staff present resident selected topics. 
  • Teaching Curriculum - series of lectures, precept students, self reflections and development of teaching philosophy and portfolio. 
  • Community Service Projects
  • Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Classes - Outpatient education classes for cardiac and pulmonary patients. 
  • Pharmacy Technician and Nursing Continuing Education Programming
  • Pharmacy Week
  • ASHP Midyear Meeting
  • Florida Residency Conference
