Pharmacy Residency Program
St. Vincent's Pharmacy Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Residency Program is designed to develop advanced knowledge and skills for pharmacy clinicians to practice independently and excel in clinical service, teaching, and research. The 12-month program is based on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Residency Learning System (RLS), which emphasizes learning outcomes and skill development in clinical, operational, drug information, management, and research areas of pharmacy practice.
Residents who successfully complete the program will be capable practitioners of pharmaceutical care in adult medicine. They will become adept at providing services in the context of multidisciplinary responsibilities in an acute care hospital, and will have the skills necessary to adapt to new clinical and operational environments to function as a successful practitioner.
When it comes to drug-related topics, the residents will act as providers of education to other healthcare professionals, students, and patients within the hospital and in the community. The residents will also demonstrate professional maturity by following a personal philosophy of supporting advances in practice, exhibiting commitment to the profession, and serving as leaders in improving the safety and effectiveness of the medication-use system.
