Nursing Leadership

Chief Nursing Officer, Karen Darnell

I'm Karen Darnell, Vice President and CNO for St. Vincent's Medical Center (SVMC). Thank you for accessing our website to learn more about nursing opportunities. I would like to take a moment to briefly explain characteristics of our nurisng program at SVMC and invite you to further browse through our website.

St. Vincent's offers rewarding and diverse career opportunities, superior benefits, and excellent options for professional and personal growth. We offer nurses recognition programs, participation in decision making, a collaborative practice environment with high standards of clinical excellence...all supported by the nurturing environment of a mission driven organization. In sum, we are an organization where nursing expertise is valued and respected.

Within the Patient Services Division, we closely monitor patient satisfaction, associate satisfaction, and nursing sensitive quality outcomes. We participate in national nursing research and have several articles appearing in nursing and healthcare journals. Our latest national research was part of a Robert Woods Johnson study on how medical surgical nurses spend their time. Results of this study will be used to help design nurse friendly work environments of the future.

Another notable program offered to St. Vincent's nurses is a Clinical Practice Development Program. Through this innovative program, our nurses have the opportunity to apply for designation as proficient or expert nurses. These nurses receive a significant monetary bonus each year.

This is a quick summary of a few of the many programs geared to support our nurses. I encourage you to contact us through this website or call us at 904-308-8654 to learn more about the rewarding opportunities available at SVMC.
