St. Vincent’s Riverside & Southside Recognized by The American Heart Association for Excellence in Heart Failure Care
St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside have earned the Get With The Guidelines®–Heart Failure Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside are the only two hospitals recognized in Jacksonville and among just 13 statewide to receive the prestigious distinction.
“St. Vincent’s has long been the region’s leader in cardiology care. Our medical staff work diligently to provide the most advanced heart care so our patients have the best chance at living quality lives after they leave our hospitals,” said St. Vincent’s CEO Moody Chisholm.
Hospitals that earn the Gold-Plus distinction have been shown to reduce patient length of stay in the hospital, reduce readmission rates and have improved treatment rates and clinical outcomes.
“We are pleased to recognize St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside for their commitment to heart failure care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, M.D., M.P.H., national chairman of the Get With The Guidelines steering committee and Executive Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Programs at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
In addition to following Get With The Guidelines–Heart Failure treatment guidelines, St. Vincent’s offers patients a comprehensive heart failure clinic. It provides education for patients and families to help them manage their disease during hospitalization and after discharge. Our goal is to provide patients with the tools they need to take control of their condition so they can live long, productive lives.
According to the American Heart Association, about 5.1 million people suffer from heart failure. Each year 670,000 new cases are diagnosed and more than 275,000 people will die from the disease. However, many heart failure patients can lead a full life when their condition is managed with proper medications and healthy lifestyle changes.
