St. Vincent’s Riverside & Southside Awarded ‘A’ Hospital Safety Scores
The Leapfrog Group has again awarded St. Vincent’s Southside and Riverside “A” Hospital Safety Scores, the highest grade in patient safety. Leapfrog, an independent industry watchdog, designed the Hospital Safety Score to rate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.
St. Vincent’s is part of Ascension Health, the nation’s largest nonprofit health system. Ascension is one of 26 organizations selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to take part in the Hospital Engagement Network. The network is focused on improving quality and safety across the country--- specifically to reduce millions of preventable injuries and complications from healthcare acquired conditions.
“As part of the Hospital Engagement Network, St. Vincent’s takes patient safety seriously. We know the work we are doing will benefit not just our patients but patients across the country. These “A” grades are validation our efforts are working,” said St. Vincent’s HealthCare Interim CEO Donnie Romine.
The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2015, with about 31-percent receiving an “A” grade.
“St. Vincent’s Riverside and Southside’s A grades validate their achievement in preventing harm within the hospital, and we are proud to recognize the efforts of the care providers and staff,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which administers the Hospital Safety Score. “Patient safety requires constant vigilance, and we encourage St. Vincent’s and all other A hospitals to continue demonstrating unrelenting commitment to patients by consistently providing a safe environment for care.”
The Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
