James Machado Named President of St. Vincent’s Clay County

James P. Machado, FACHE has been named President of St. Vincent’s Medical Center Clay County, one of St. Vincent’s HealthCare’s three medical centers. St. Vincent’s HealthCare is a ministry of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and non-profit healthcare system.

“As a former Air Force Officer, James brings decades of proven military and civilian leadership experience to the St. Vincent’s family,” said Blain Claypool, President of Acute Care at St. Vincent’s HealthCare. “James and his family will quickly integrate into the fabric of Clay County and continue to grow our ministry that is so deeply rooted into the lives of our friends and neighbors. We are excited for the Clay County community to get to know him and his wife, Katherine, welcoming them to the Clay family.”

Machado received his bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College and his MBA from Western New England College, both in Massachusetts. He spent 10 years in the United States Air Force, primarily working in the healthcare field. After his military service, Machado held various positions for Community Health Systems, Inc. including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and most recently Chief Executive Officer.

“My career both inside and outside of the military has helped me hone my leadership skills and provided me with a breadth of experience that will no doubt help me as I serve my new neighbors,” said Machado. “St. Vincent’s is such an impressive organization and there is so much positive momentum at St. Vincent’s Clay County. I can’t wait put down some roots and get to work.”

Machado grew up in a very small town in Massachusetts. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing and golfing, along with watching baseball and football. Machado will begin his duties at St. Vincent’s Clay County on April 4th.
