Health Notes: New St. Vincent's system to make breast reconstruction surgery safer

By Charlie Patton, Florida Times-Union

St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside is one of four hospitals nationally to now offer patients the Fluobeam Imaging System, which helps surgeons during certain breast reconstruction operations.

After surgery, some women are at increased risk for tissue death. The Fluobeam technology helps physicians identify at-risk tissue during surgery. In mastectomies, it allows doctors to determine if an implant can be placed immediately or if an expander, which requires a second surgery, should be used.
