Florida Blue and others preview Medicare patient network clinic on Jacksonville's Southside

By Drew Dixon, Florida Times-Union

A new clinic for Medicare patients was given an advance showcase Tuesday by Florida Blue and other health care professionals.

The 6,000-square-foot center, which was previewed on St. Johns Bluff Road just south of Beach Boulevard on the Southside, will open in 2016 and is designed to serve as a health maintenance organization for Blue Medicare Preferred members. Its medical professionals will service patients with chronic health conditions who can get their needs met through a host of companies servicing the facility including Alignment Healthcare and St. Vincent’s HealthCare.

“Our community and our patients, they deserve better,” said St. Vincent’s HealthCare President Kyle Sanders at the preview event Tuesday that drew about 75 people. “We’re committed to working together to providing that care.”

Florida Blue Vice President of Government Markets Luisa Charbonneau said the concept of providing a network for Medicare-specific HMOs is not new in other areas of the country. But it is being tried for the first time for Florida Blue in this state.

In addition to treating chronic conditions, the center will also provide preventative health services for Medicare patients and it will also provide clinical teams who will work with the primary care physicians of patients.
