‘Doctor’s office on wheels’ makes Lake Region stop

By Dan Hildebran, The Starke Journal

The St. Vincent’s medical van made a stop at Lake Area Ministries on Jan. 15, providing screenings, vaccinations and treatment to Lake Region residents without health insurance.

Florida Health Department volunteer Marion Henson described the operation as a “doctor’s office on wheels.”

The van is a partnership between St. Vincent’s Hospital and the Clay County Health Department, with St. Vincent’s providing the physician and nurse for the van.

The converted RV is one of five medical vans in the Jacksonville area.  The unit that visited LAM on Jan. 15 is sponsored by Rotary District 6970, which covers northeast Florida, including clubs in Keystone Heights and Starke.

Another van, used mainly for pediatrics, is sponsored by convenience store operator, Daily’s.

A third unit is sponsored by Ronald McDonald House, with the remaining two sponsored by St. Vincent’s.

The van will be returning to LAM between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month through June: Feb. 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, and June 11.
