Northeast Florida hospitals growing, creating hundreds of jobs

St. Vincent’s HealthCare

The expansion: St. Vincent’s Medical Center Clay County, a 64-bed hospital at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Branan Field Road in Middleburg

Jobs created: 250 to 300 jobs in the medical office building; 300 jobs in the hospital

Details: The first phase of the $60 million hospital includes 64 beds. Plans call for 221 beds and a 60,000-square-foot medical office building.

Status: Construction is well under way, with framing about 50 percent complete, and heating, cooling and plumbing work about 30 percent complete, said Barry Darnell, construction manager for St. Vincent’s. He said work on the medical office building is slated to begin within 60 days, and that the hospital has signed a ground lease with Birmingham-based Johnson Development to build the office space. Darnell said St. Vincent’s would lease about a third of the building.

The hospital is slated to open in fall 2013.
